Is Flying a Helicopter Hard?
A common myth about helicopters is they are really tough to fly. But the truth is, anybody with enough body coordination to drive a car, can probably ride a helicopter. But this doesn’t necessarily mean it is easy; hovering seems impossible especially for starters. But after a few hours of practice, it should be a piece of cake.
Is it dangerous?
The misconception that helicopters are unsafe is totally unfounded. The chances of crashing with either a factory made or home built chopper are no more than those of a winged aircraft. In fact, the leading causes of crashes are human error, running out of fuel, and other related issues. So you’ll be perfectly safe if you know what you are doing.
What if the engine fails?
An engine fail does not necessarily mean a death sentence. The rotors are designed to auto-rotate when descending even without the engine’s thrust. And luxury versions come with two engines – just in case of any nasty surprises along the way.
Whatever your reasons for learning to fly may be, the fact remains that a career in avionics is always a good choice.
